Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a Registered Dietitian?

No. You do not need a referral to book an appointment with Coastal Nutrition. You can book an appointment on our website.

Are appointments covered by insurance?

Many extended health benefit plans cover Registered Dietitian services. Coverage varies depending on your provider and plan, so we recommend checking your individual benefits before booking. We provide receipts that can be submitted for reimbursement if applicable.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you. We will discuss your health history, nutrition concerns, current eating patterns, lifestyle, and goals. Together, we will create realistic strategies that feel manageable and supportive.

Are appointments virtual?

Yes! All Coastal Nutrition appointments are offered virtually, allowing you to receive personalized nutrition care from the comfort and convenience of your own home.

Do you provide meal plans?

We focus on helping you build skills, confidence, and flexibility around food rather than providing rigid meal plans. Depending on your goals and needs, we may provide personalized nutrition recommendations, meal ideas, resources, and practical strategies to support you.

Do you help with weight loss?

At Coastal Nutrition, we believe that health is about so much more than a number on the scale. Our approach focuses on improving the health markers that matter most—your energy, digestion, relationship with food, mental well-being and overall quality of life. We practice from a non-diet, evidence-based approach, helping you build sustainable habits without restrictive rules or quick fixes. Whether you're managing a health condition, looking to feel your best, or wanting to make peace with food, we're here to provide personalized guidance that fits your life.

What is the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are regulated healthcare professionals with accredited university education, supervised clinical training and ongoing professional standards. In British Columbia the title "nutritionist" is not regulated, so education and qualifications can vary. At Coastal Nutrition, all of our practitioners are Registered Dietitians, so you can feel confident you're receiving personalized, evidence-based care backed by the latest nutrition science.
